How You Can Prepare To Meditate

There is a lot of nonsense talked about meditation. I do not mean what it can do for you because that is difficult to prove one way or the other. I have read people saying that they found all sorts of things in meditation and who am I to say that they did not just because I have not had the same experience.

I believe that there are many stages of evolution and therefore what one person experiences in one way another might experience in a completely different way.

No, I mean that there is a lot of rubbish talked about how one has to meditate. I am reading an piece right now by someone who says: ‘… for a successful meditation practice, everything has to be perfect ….. the room has to be set up in such a way …’ and so it goes on. The person who wrote that piece seems never to have even thought leave alone ever meditated.

Meditation has always been most frequently carried out by people with a spiritual bent. Of those people, most people who meditated were monks, because they were seeking enlightenment and had the time and tranquility to meditate. It was difficult to find the time or the quietness if you were a subsistence farmer with ten kids running around.

Anyway, lower orders of monks are not famous for living opulent lives where ‘everything … is ideal’. They live quiet lives and when they want to meditate, they will not be disturbed, no matter where they are but particularly in their cells.

My father used to drive out to a cliff top and meditate behind a bush gazing out 100 feet above the Bristol Channel. Often he did it in the middle of the night.

It is best that the people you live with understand that when you want to meditate that they should endeavor not to make a great deal of noise and certainly not call you by name or barge into the room where you are.

How you can accomplish this in your household, you know better than I, but talking to cohabitants and displaying a sign in a prominent position can help as can always meditating at the same hour of the day, although is not normally practical. Most of us have to take our free time when we can.

Turn off anything that makes a noise. Turn off phones and even the door bell, if you can. Open the window, if it is not unbearably cold or raining cats and dogs. Take a shower and put on loose-fitting comfortable clothes like pyjamas.

Sit on the floor, if you can; cross-legged, if you can. If you are nearly there, try sitting on a cushion or pillow. There are things called zafu or meditation pillows, which are small and thick.

Some are round and others are square, but a round zafu may be 12 inches in diameter and four to six inches thick. This is to raise you off the ground enough to take the strain off your hips and knees, if you are not used to sitting cross-legged.

It will encourage a good posture, that is a straight back. It is also softer on the behind and when you are sitting comfortably, you may begin.

Use These Relaxation Techniques In The wilderness

With relaxation just start becoming aware of the different sounds inside your body. In the inner sounds. Spend a while being with the internal sounds inside the body.

Next, shift your focus to listen to the sounds instantly outside of yourself. To the sounds close for you. First of all become aware of the sounds in front of you. Then to your right. Then behind you. To your left and again in front of you. Like you are sending a radar about you that’s picking up and becoming aware in the instant sounds around you. Maybe you can hear a small bird in front of you. The rustle of the bush to the right. Maybe a special type of bird behind you. And some leaves of the tree blowing within the wind to the left.

Becoming conscious in the immediate sounds surrounding you in all directions.

I then shift my attention to also become aware of the sounds happening up above me. Perhaps there is another type of bird calling overhead of me. Or perhaps differing types of leaves rustling within the wind. I then invest a few moments simply being with all of the immediate sound forms surrounding me. Like a sphere of sound surrounding me in all directions.

Next I actively intend to push my listening outwards whilst maintaining a sense of relaxation. I begin to shift my focus around the sounds taking place a long way away from me. Around the distant sound forms. Maybe the sound of a crow in the distance in front of me. Or even the shrill of an eagle soaring within the sky high overhead. Or perhaps the dull rumble of traffic in the distance to my left. I simply aim to push the sphere of sound surrounding me outwards. To push the restriction of my hearing outwards to include as many sounds as I can about me. Actively pushing the restriction of my listening.

As soon as I have pushed the restriction of my hearing outwards in all directions, I then pay attention to the patterns inside the wilderness. To the natural rhythm in the sounds within nature. For example if you’re near water at both dawn or dusk you will probably notice numerous differing frog calls. And you will most likely discover there is a rhythm the frogs croak at. Maybe you will discover the deeper calls from one species is in time with all of the higher pitched calls of an additional species.

Or perhaps if it is windy you will start to note the wind may be coming through the land in gusts. And also the rhythm of the sounds in the trees as the wind comes. And the way when the gust of wind starts to drop the sound in the leaves starts to soften. A very organic rhythm within the leaves, in tune also with the organic rhythm of the wind.

Practice relaxation techniques and discover how to relax and speak with your earth.

Vision Quest: How you can Drop Into the Wisdom Of Nature

When you have a water bottle useful you can also put a little bit of drinking water around your mouth and notice the way it changes the tastes. Occasionally the tastes will completely alter simply by adding a bit of fluid in to the combination. I remember once being in France a few years in the past and observed how they usually drank wine with their meals to be able to intensify the delicate tastes within the meals they had been eating. Likewise by including fluid to what you are tasting, you’ll change the taste within your mouth. Being with your subtle nuances of all the unique tastes.

While you go into your vision quest, you will notice that your sense of sensing yourself is closely connected to your sixth sense which is the perception of the religious dimension. This is the final schism inside your five predominant senses. Your sense of sight and sound forms are connected. Your perception of scent and flavour are connected. And your perception of sensing yourself and your sixth perception are connected.

As you heighten your perception of sensing yourself and other senses, your religious perception will usually heighten. You will be out of your mind, come to your senses and you will automatically begin to drop in to the religious world, the world past the one we normally run inside.

You’ll naturally begin to start to be aware of the lifestyle force each within you and around you. You will naturally feel the delicate pull of the guiding power. Plus you’ll naturally start to pick up on your messages and symbols of source within the wilderness.

Nevertheless, of all the 5 senses it’s most vital to create and heighten your sense of feeling. This is when the veil between the ordinary sense of being and non-ordinary reality starts to lift and both time and perception begin to distort.

So how do we heighten our perception of sensing yourself on your vision quest?

The first insight to realize is that tension blocks sensing yourself and that a state of rest usually stimulates feeling. The reason for this really is that stress uses up a level of our awareness and we have much less consciousness to recognize what’s taking place within our bodies. Very similar to if we’re considering an issue we’re probably not aware of the dimension about us – the sights, sound forms, smells, tastes and feeling inside our bodies.

Discover exactly how you can do your own vision quest immersed in the wisdom and mystery of the wilderness.

All Success Lies In Your Ability to Live Between a World of Facts and a World of Faith

Success is a word on everyone’s mind today. What with major companies gone bust, foreclosures on every block, millions unemployed and the economy in the toilet, it is little wonder that people are looking for a bright spot. What does it take to achieve success in anything? What is standing in the way of success for you?

Dwelling in a World of Faith

Bishop E. Bernard Jordan has an answer to the question “What does it take to succeed?” His answer is that the true secret is based in your ability to live somewhere between a world of fact and a world of faith.

Since we live in the world, we live in a vast ocean of facts. Some things are done, some are not done. Some things are possible, some are not. There is fact on the one hand and fiction on the other. Within the world of facts, only so much can be accomplished.

The other thing about living in a world of facts, that people find difficult to live with, is that society believes there is a set formula for everything. If you invest your money, you can watch the interest grow. If you go to college, you can get a high-paying job. If you spend enough years ruthlessly climbing the corporate ladder, you can find your way to the top-but you’re going to have to sacrifice for it.

How much should you sacrifice before it is too much? Living in a world of faith doesn’t ask about sacrifice. Living there is about how you can achieve success while enjoying what is valuable to you in your life. It is about things that bear no price tag like spending time with loved ones and having the time to watch your kids grow instead of spending all that time in a small, grey cubicle on the 8th floor.

With faith, the obstacle standing between you and every ounce of the life you want to live is your imagination and your belief that you can make it happen.

“Life is full of tough decisions,” states Jordan. “Some people go through life pleased that the glass is half full; others spend a lifetime lamenting that it’s half-empty. The truth is there is a glass with a certain volume of liquid in it. From there, it’s up to you! Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.”

Don’t become mired in facts alone. Allow yourself to walk in faith and start reaping the rewards that are within you.
